Why Are We Here?

A talk from Swami Nityananda presented in HD audio and video

Dear Feel Love Now Community,

We just shared this video on YouTube, but wanted you to be able to have it on your Substack video player as well, in case you prefer that.

In the video, drawing from the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad-Gita, Swami Nityananda explores how the yogic teachings can illuminate our lives, guiding us towards a state of unconditional love and ultimate realization. Every moment presents an opportunity to choose transformation, to uplift ourselves and open our hearts to the energy of unconditional love. By doing so, we allow the divine Light to become more established and visible within us, enhancing our ability to serve and love more deeply.

Here’s one of our favorite quotes:

“Swami Premananda’s translation of the Bhagavad-Gita—which I’m sharing right here—it says that when we go beyond time and space, when we go beyond desire, when we go beyond attachment, when we go beyond the illusion of separateness, we’re not compelled to return to this world.

I was smiling at that translation because many of the translations say something different. They say ‘you never have to come back here again.’ They say ‘you’re free from being born in this world again.’

His phrasing is so pure, it says ‘You will not be compelled to return.’ If you are not compelled to return, and you know it is of service for you to return, what would you choose? Hello, welcome you all! That’s why we’re all here.

So, I absolutely love his phrasing. It’s the equivalent of if I asked you on the way home from meditation today, could you please run a five minute errand because it will help my friend. My friend is in need of a hug, my friend is in need of a smile, my friend is in need of a kind, caring presence. Five minutes? What do you say? And there’s no pressure. There’s no compulsion. Of course, you would say yes.

In the light of eternity, your whole human life, even if you live 112 years, is five minutes. And so, allow yourself to truly have the perspective that from the perspective of that which is unchanging, this whole human life is like the snap of a finger. It’s like the blink of a Divine eye. It’s like a five minute errand on the way home to be helpful and to be of service. So that’s what we’re doing here—just to be the energy of unconditional love.”

If you have heard this teaching before, we invite you — as Swami so often invites us — to hear it as if you are hearing it for the first time. Often we receive these teachings right when we need them.

In loving service,
