Why Dethroning Your Ego Will Help You (A Powerful Yogic Understanding of Jesus’s Birth)

A talk from Swami Nityananda presented in HD audio and video

Dear Feel Love Now Community,

We just shared this video on YouTube, but wanted you to be able to have it on your Substack video player as well, in case you prefer that.

In the video, Swami Nityananda encourages us to embrace the Divine within and around us. Drawing from both Christian and Yogic traditions, we delve into the stories of Mary and Joseph from the Bible, and Shiva and Parvati from Hindu mythology. These narratives not only enrich our understanding of divine intervention and human response but also offer us insights into how we can incorporate these lessons into our daily lives.

Here’s one of our favorite quotes:

“Herod in this scripture can be seen to represent the ego. Herod is terrified at the birth of the Divine because Herod understands that when the Divine is born, it does dethrone the ego. So for each of us: Am I allowing the Divine to be born in me in a way that lovingly melts away the ego, if I have been placing the ego on a throne.

When we allow the Divine to be born in us, if we are truly doing that, it melts away separation, and it also melts away fear. So for each of us: Am I allowing the Divine to be born in me in a way that melts away separation, that melts away fear and that will lovingly allow the ego not to be seated on the throne of our heart because the Divine is seated on the throne of our heart.

For most humans, this is a process that involves ongoing Self-transformation. And so just to rededicate yourself with love and joy and good humor and respect and willingness to that ongoing process of Self-transformation.”

If you have heard this teaching before, we invite you — as Swami so often invites us — to hear it as if you are hearing it for the first time. Often we receive these teachings right when we need them.

In loving service,
The Karma Yoga Team at AYM
