Why Your Body Is a Temple

A talk from Swami Nityananda presented in HD audio and video

Dear Feel Love Now Community,

We just shared this video on YouTube, but wanted you to be able to have it on your Substack video player as well, in case you prefer that.

Having it on Substack makes it easy for you to see any other podcasts, videos, articles, or full meditation services that might be available in the Instant Self-Enlightenment by clicking here.

The Upanishads teaches us that God is the source of all bliss, and this bliss is enshrined within your own heart.

Swami Nityananda shares teachings exploring the realization of the divine essence within you—how connecting with this essence through meditation unfolds a natural state of joy and peace.

As we purify our hearts and consciousness, we realize that our very curiosity about spirituality is driven by the bliss that already resides within. Recognizing your body as a temple of the Divine transforms how you relate to yourself and your spiritual practice.

Here’s one of our favorite quotes:

“From the Taittiriya Upanishad: ‘By the realization of the divine essence within one’s own being, one becomes blissful.’ So the divine essence, it’s there. It’s already within you.

Being in contact with it—realizing it—one becomes blissful. It’s almost like you reveal the bliss that is already there. You allow it to unfold from within you. That bliss is already there.

The Upanishad goes on to say: ‘For who would have sought to live the life of righteousness and meditation if the bliss of God were not enshrined within one’s heart.’ And so the very, kind of, questioning, curiosity that says, ‘I want to learn how to meditate,’ that’s from the bliss of your own heart.

You are guided to purify the heart and the consciousness and meditate and learn how to direct your attention within—refining your consciousness, your energy, your attention, your awareness.

The Upanishad’s say: ‘Truly, God is the source of bliss.’ And guess where God is? Enshrined within your own heart. And so there are natural recognitions that unfold from this. God is enshrined within this heart. That means my body is a temple of the Divine. Isn’t that incredible to look at your body as a temple of the Divine?”

If you have heard this teaching before, we invite you — as Swami so often invites us — to hear it as if you are hearing it for the first time. Often we receive these teachings right when we need them.

In loving service,
